A Report on Women in the Church

by Georgeanne Smith

It is a privilege and a blessing to be leading the Women in the Church at Westminster Presbyterian Church! I am surrounded by godly, Jesus-loving, Bible-studying Daughters of the King!

The WIC Council consists of the following committees and members:
Vice-President: Meredith Fletcher
Discipleship: Anne Marie Owens
Flowers: Selena Nause
Mercy:
Cooks Who Care and College Baskets: Stevie Pillow
     Community Events: Vicky Patridge
     WIC Events: Jennifer Moses
Organization: Stacey Hall
Service: Meagan Howard

We have had an active fall! Our Discipleship Committee planned and implemented three Bible studies, morning, noon and night, studying Even Better Than Eden by Nancy Guthrie. Special thanks to our leaders: Kathryn Dykesterhouse, Shelby Gorman, Gray Blocker, Amy Coleman, Anne Marie Owens, Selena Nause, Allison Pillow, Cathy Adams and Kim Pillow.

We introduced the study with a kick-off party at the beautiful home of Shelley Walker. A time of intentional prayer was held weekly led by Elizabeth Hinkley.

Our Flower Committee was busy providing beautiful arrangements for the sanctuary each month led by Katy Coleman. All of our fantastic Christmas decorations were done by our talented committee.

Stevie Pillow does a wonderful job with her committee providing food for families with Cooks Who Care and sending baskets to our college students!

Vicky Patridge and her committee provided a delicious brunch for a large crowd at Mission Mississippi breakfast.

The WIC Events Committee is led by Jennifer Moses. Her committee had a wedding shower for Marianna Tollison, a baby shower for Sarah Waldrop and Gray Blocker. Our WIC Christmas party was held at the gorgeous home of Selena Nause and organized by this committee. They also organized the reception for the children’s Christmas program.

The Organization Committee, headed by Stacey Hall, continually cleans out the storage closet and linen closet! This committee is finalizing a wedding manual and a funeral manual. They will be working in the library this spring and have taken on the courtyard as another project!

Meagan Howard and the Service Committee are taking wonderful care of our shut-ins ! Each week different ladies volunteer to visit - birthdays have been celebrated with cupcakes and balloons, Christmas with blankets and gifts and just quality time spent with our members who cannot get out.

Our plans for the spring:

Bible studies began January 21 with three studies each week. We will be studying Better by Jen Wilkins, a study of Hebrews. Prayer time will begin January 22. “One Another” groups will begin in February. These are small groups of ladies intended to foster community and intentionality around growing in holiness. In the summer we will be studying None Like Him by Jen Wilkin. The Gospel Coalition for Women 2020 will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 10-14. We have approximately 26 women planning to attend!

A flower calendar will sent out shortly and there will be three different price points offered to enable more members to provide flowers on Sunday.

Cooks Who Care and College Baskets will continue their work!

Community Events will organize the reception for Delta Streets Graduation on May 14.

WIC Events will organize the Senior Breakfast on May 10.

Organization and Service will continue their work with the help of their committee Members.

We have an active Women in the Church group at Westminster! I am so excited to see where the Lord leads us next as we seek HIs guidance in all of our activities. I especially want to thank Richard and Josh, our Diaconate and Session for their faithful and loving support!
