Mission of the Month: Delta Streets Academy

Summer of 2020 has been busy for Delta Streets with exciting additions to both the staff and the facilities. As part of implementing our Strategic Plan, we recently hired four new faculty: Xavier Black as School Administrator, Travis Upshaw as Head Football Coach and Director of Operations, Connor Altman as History Teacher and Head Soccer Coach, and James Cheatham, former principal the past two years and now Campus Pastor. Coach Upshaw and Weminster's own Tate Johnson built a new locker room, equipment room, coach’s office, and renovated the bathroom with the help of Watson Pillow. The exterior of the building has been painted and the roof will soon be replaced. Once school starts back in August, the carpentry class will build three new classrooms in the middle section of the building.

The DSA Lions are looking forward to hosting our first season of home football games at Jim Randall Stadium at Mississippi Delta Community College this year. Both junior high and varsity (30 total players) were split into two groups for summer practice with nearly perfect attendance in June. The basketball team traveled to Louisville this summer to participate in Grace Christian’s Team Camp. They started off with an impressive win over 3A Marshall Academy and finished camp with a 5-2 record. By early December, we hope to complete a gym renovation on a building in Greenwood for home basketball games!

Delta Streets implemented a “distance learning” curriculum for the entire fourth nine weeks. Teachers taught remotely using Zoom and each student had his own ChromeBook to use from home. Students have the option to continue with virtual learning this fall or return to the classroom and adhere to certain guidelines. If they return to school, they must wear a mask and social distance when possible.

With all of the changes facing our world today, we serve an unchanging God. Thanks to Westminster's support, the ministry of Delta Streets has not wavered and our students continue to receive a Christ-centered education!
